Know Yourself

FRIDAY

Where does your mind go when you feel super stressed? You know, that feeling of, “MAN! I just really need a break!”

Mine personally says, “Hey girl, you seem a little frazzled. How about we calm things over with a bottle of wine and lots of delicious unhealthy food. While we’re at it, let’s shut out the rest of the world and live in your brain, where it’s nice and cozy and I can tell you all these horrible little details about yourself.”

Sounds silly, right? I admit I am super critical of myself, especially when I’m stressed.

YOU SHOULD HAVE DONE THIS. YOU’RE BEING WEAK MINDED. THAT WASN’T GOOD ENOUGH. YOU COULD LOSE MORE WEIGHT. YOU SHOULDN’T HAVE EATEN THAT. BLAH. BLAH. BLAH.

Obviously this thought process isn’t going to solve anything so do I listen to myself? No. At least, I try really hard to change the conversation that I’m having up top.

The point is the mind is quite literally a battlefield and if you don’t know yourself and your demons, you’re never going to win the war.

I came to a point in my life where I had to acknowledge this lack of control in my mindset and set out to correct it. Do I always win? Surely not, but I try. And in trying, I feel in control and when I am in control, I am driven, and positive, and admittedly, easier to be around.

I challenge you to face your demons head on and identify them. We all have them so if you read this and said, “No, not me. I don’t really have any of that” then you need to write a book so the world can be enlightened.

Some of you probably wonder why I even write about this stuff. Well, I wish having a healthy lifestyle was as easy as working out and eating right but we have these things called emotions and they are POWERFUL. So powerful that they have the ability to shape our world. They make us quit before we start, say things we shouldn't, and see things that aren’t even there. As hard as we work on our diets and bodies, we have to work ten times harder on our mind because it’s the thing that controls it all.
