Ever get that burst of motivation to hit the gym harder? Train for that race? Clean up your diet? You start out with a fire and over time it slowly turns into embers then to ash.
Motivation is a wonderful tool to start something new, but as we described before, it is short lived.
We have to keep the fire burning.
But how do we do that? It's simple. If you want the fire to keep burning, you have to keep adding wood to the fire. We're obviously using symbolism here, but think about it! How did you start the fire?
Well, first it was the decision that you wanted it in the first place. Then you started making choices, adding wood, for the fire to start. Once those items were in place, it's burn baby, burn!
How do we keep it going? We keep adding wood, aka positive choices to keep our goal (FIRE) alive.
This all comes back to discipline and focus.
Sometimes we overwhelm ourselves with the end goal all while missing the important day to day grind. Once you have the goal and motivation in sight, shove it to the back of your mind and treat every day like an opportunity to keep the fire going.
