Am I going to get hurt?
Injury is a possibility in any sport or activity but at Geaux CrossFit, we believe in COACHING. This gives us the opportunity to closely look at each member’s technique and correct movement before and during the workout. We believe everyone should learn proper mechanics first. Once we see consistency in correct form, we will focus on the intensity. Our main goal is longevity. Meaning we want you working out and staying healthy for years to come.
Am I going to get bulky?
Not at all. In order to put on bulk muscle, especially for women, you would need to lift heavy loads very often. We do believe in improving your overall strength but it is not our main focus. Our programming is centered around improving the 10 general physical skills that develop an athlete. These skills are: cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, speed, agility, balance, flexibility, accuracy, power, and coordination. We evenly focus on each of these things.
To put on bulk muscle, you would also need to eat a high caloric surplus. We offer nutritional mentoring to help keep your diet in check, and also give you the results you want.
Is it a cult?
“Is this a serious question?” NO! We just want to have fun working out and get to know some cool people while getting great results. We’re in the business of making people feel amazing. That usually makes them want to share it with other people.
Do I have to be in shape before I join?
Absolutely not. We scale each workout to your current fitness level. As you progress, the degree of scaling will change. This allows all fitness levels to workout together.
What if i’ve never worked out before?
That’s ok! Plenty of people took their first step towards fitness with us. Each class is led by an experienced coach that will instruct you from start to finish. You’ll be well taken care of whether it’s your first or 50th class.
What if i have an injury?
Not a problem. Please let the coach know prior to class starting and we will modify the movement in question for you! We have an array of movements that can be substituted to cater to your abilities.
What does WOD mean?
You’ll hear this frequently. Sometimes as a noun, sometimes as a verb, but simply put: Workout Of the Day.
What does scaled and Rx mean?
Every day we program a workout with certain measures. If you can perform the workout as it is written, without any substitutions or changes, then you have completed the workout “as prescribed” or “Rx”. If the workout is altered in any way, it is considered scaled.
How often should I do CrossFit?
That’s up to you! We advocate for listening to your body. If it helps, most of our members come 3-5 days a week.
What types of movements and exercises will I be doing?
The list goes on and on but in short, you will be doing FUNCTIONAL movements. These are things you already do in your day to day life. Every time you sit down, that’s an air squat. If you fall, you do a pushup to get up. When you wake up, you do a sit up to get out of bed. Moving the couch across the room? Good thing we teach you the proper form on deadlift. You’ll experience conditioning, gymnastics, and some weightlifting all under the watchful eye of a coach.
What is the class structure like?
Each class starts on the hour. We will begin with a group warm up then we will explain the workout of the day. After a detailed explanation is given, we will teach the movements used in the workout. After seeing and correcting each member’s form, we will provide scales for the workout. 3..2..1… GO! Once the workout is complete, we will log your score on the whiteboard, clean up, then roll out and stretch. This is all completed in 1 hour.
How long will it take to see results?
You will see an increase in your performance in as little as 2 weeks. With proper nutrition, aesthetic goals will come as fast as you work for them. Having a hard time dialing everything in? Ask us. We can help you with that.
Is CrossFit for athletes only?
Quite the opposite actually. CrossFit is for EVERYONE. If you want more out of life, then this is for you. We want to make you stronger as you get older so you can enjoy your independence for as long as possible!
What is the difference between doing CrossFit on my own or at Geaux CrossFit?
When you participate in our classes, you are getting so much more than a great workout. The atmosphere of the gym is motivating because of the members. CrossFit brings people together through good times and hard work. It provides accountability and also ensures safety. The magic is in the movement so it pays BIG to do it right.
What is the CrossFit Open?
The CrossFit Open is a worldwide competition held annually and lasts for 5 weeks. For some, it’s the first step to making it to the Crossfit games. For most, it’s a way of tracking progress year to year. Each week CrossFit HQ will release a workout to be judged and completed. You can perform these workouts scaled or Rx. Based on your performance, you will be ranked by State, Region, Country, and worldwide. Every year we have a blast! We hope you’ll participate with us!
How do I get to the CrossFit games?
The easiest way to get to the games is by purchasing a ticket. HAHA, but all jokes aside, Games athletes are the cream of the crop. They have competed in the Open and finished in the top 20 of their region. After the Open, they competed in a super regional where they took a top 5 finish and secured a ticket to the Games. If you want to end up in Carson, it’s going to take a lot of hard work!
